Yin-troduction to Transformation

Lotus

Yin yoga is a meditative practice in which poses are held for an extended time with relaxed muscles and deep breathing. This stillness allows the body to soften and the postures to stimulate connective tissues, fascia and ligament, as well as affect bone density, joint mobility, and the overall health of the internal organs. The yin practice complements dynamic, muscular (yang) styles of yoga and other exercises that emphasize internal heat through the lengthening and contracting of muscles. These poses help create space in the body, particularly the hips and low back, as well as develop a more introspective and mindful awareness of one’s physical, energetic, emotional, and mental equilibrium.

This workshop is intended to introduce the yin practice and deepen students understanding of the theory and application of this transformative approach to yoga. Students will leave with a greater awareness of their breathe and body mechanics that will support a lifelong practice and that can be applied to all yoga.

We will:

  • Cover yin poses from an anatomical perspective to help students make their practice more personal
  • Explore use of props, modification, and how to safely come into and out of a pose
  • Introduce concepts of Taoism and Chinese medicine that have contributed to the development of this practice
  • Discuss yin and yang as philosophies and as styles of exercise
  • Examine how yin yoga affects connective tissue anatomically and energetically through modern meridian theory
  • Work collaboratively to examine anatomical differences and how that relates to our practice
  • Practice yin yoga with the application of our discussions to explore our personal practice

Somatic-based Movement for Yogis

Chakras, Meridians & Your Path to Bliss

Chakra Meditation Image Color

The reward of yoga through awakening our Chakras, or transcending attachment at that level, is infinite happiness or bliss. Chakras, or energy centers of the central nervous system, our brain and spine, are associated with nerve plexus and endocrine glands that govern much of the hormonal and nervous system. Exploring the governing principles of our Chakras, this workshop introduces and explores how our happiness is connected to the functioning of our energy at a physical, emotional, and mental level. It is intended to equip students with practical ways to connect with and open themselves at many levels through yoga postures, breathing techniques, and acts of spiritual compassion and integrity. We will:

  • introduce each Chakra and discuss its anatomical location and correlation to other functions of the bodies systems, sense organs, and glands
  • examine dysfunctional characteristics of each Chakras at the physical, emotional, and mental level
  • explore what Meridians are governed by which Chakra and what yoga postures and breathing techniques can help bring balance to these energy bodies
  • discuss karma and reincarnation and the affect Chakra health has on cause and effect
  • practice poses, breathing, and mediation exercises to connect with our own experiences in these place

Celebration of the Divine Feminine: A Winter Solstice Workshop

winter-solstice

Winter, with its cold weather and darkness, is a time of mystery, urging us to go inward and reflect. This nurturing and supportive energy is an opportunity to connect with the feminine within ourselves and around us. Yet turning inward can be difficult and tends to bring up fear, so we must tap into the unconditional love of the warrior within and open our hearts to what scares us.

The non-dualistic Tantric traditions encourage practitioners to move past the pairs of opposites and bring every aspect of their daily life into the spiritual realm, realizing nothing exists that is not Divine. This workshop will include a yoga practice and discussion to embrace the fearlessness of the goddess and compassionate heart of the mother as well as a dialogue with handouts on ways to care for your body this winter with Ayurvedic and nutritional insights. Join me at this time of global shift and intention, embrace your feminine side, and honor yourself by taking time to care for and listen to your divine, inner Nature.

Body and Life Detox for Spring Equinox

P1000361 Spring is a time of new birth, energy, and inspiration, and like the natural world around us, we must shed, purify, and cleanse to experience lightness and ease. The Vernal Equinox represents a point of balance as we move from the colder, wetter months of winter towards the warmer, dryer months of summer. Just as our Mother earth is going through Her cycle, so too, we have our natural rhythm.

This workshop will include an energetic, detox flow with rhythmic breathing to move prana, create inner heat, and stoke digestive fire.  We will focus on twists, side bends, and hip openers to support liver and gallbladder health. This allows for good space, or sukha, to exist in the body by cleansing and purging any weight and heaviness that has accumulated in our bodies and lives. We will conclude with a discussion on Ayurvedic techniques that support your body’s detoxification and allow more light and freedom into your life!

From Warrior Pose to Guardianship Flow

Have you ever found yourself in warrior pose wondering what all the training was for? Guardianship is the integration of this work through your connection to the whole and your intuition in every moment of your life. We have all had our trust broken and felt the degree to which focusing on individuality creates separation. And we know when we have been called to rebuild trust, becoming responsible for our individual power and be of service. Each individual voice adds a unique perspective providing us a way to protect and guard our collective unity. Guardianship is about safeguarding what is most important to us individually and collectively, where the personal needs and the needs of the group come together to shape and guide the collective whole.
